PurimInShushan.com is a cultural project that tells the Purim story through a browser-based game, educational content, and community features. This site is hosted on Vercel. When we say “we,” “us,” or “our,” we mean the operators of PurimInShushan.com.

2. Information We Collect

Email Addresses

If you subscribe to our newsletter (“The Scroll”), we collect the email address you provide. We use Resend to manage our mailing list. Your email is stored securely by Resend and is used only to send you The Scroll and occasional project updates.

Uploaded Photos

Our Pixel Portrait feature lets you upload a photo to generate a pixel-art version of yourself in the style of the game. Uploaded photos are sent to our server for processing and are not stored permanently. They are used only for the duration of the portrait generation request and are discarded afterward. We do not retain, share, or sell your photos.

Analytics Data

We use Groundhog, a privacy-focused analytics tool, to collect anonymous usage data such as page views and in-game events (e.g., level completions, feature usage). This data helps us improve the experience. Groundhog does not use cookies for tracking and does not collect personally identifiable information.

Local Storage

The game uses your browser's localStorage to save session data such as your high score and game progress. This data stays on your device and is never sent to our servers. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To send you The Scroll newsletter and project updates (email subscribers only)
• To generate your pixel-art portrait during a single processing session
• To understand how visitors use the site and game so we can improve the experience
• To maintain and improve the functionality of the site

• Vercel — hosting and deployment
• Resend — email delivery for The Scroll newsletter
• Google Gemini API — AI-powered pixel portrait generation (photos are sent for processing and not retained)
• Groundhog — privacy-focused analytics

6. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we handle. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. API keys and sensitive credentials are stored server-side and are never exposed to your browser. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

• You can unsubscribe from The Scroll at any time using the link in any email we send
• You can clear your localStorage game data through your browser settings
• You can choose not to upload a photo — the game is fully playable without the portrait feature

8. Children's Privacy

PurimInShushan is designed for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will note the new “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
